Warner has not previously played in the competition but Lanning represented Trent Rockets in 2022.

England players including Ollie Pope, Dawid Malan, Jason Roy and Amy Jones are also involved in the draft, which takes place on 20 March.

The Hundred 2024 starts on 23 July with Oval Invincibles hosting Birmingham Phoenix in a double header.

There are 75 places available from the draft process in the men’s and women’s competitions, with 137 players having already been retained across the 16 teams.

The teams who finished bottom of the table in 2023 will have the first pick – Birmingham Phoenix in the women’s competition and Northern Superchargers in the men’s competition, who are led by England legend Andrew Flintoff.

A further 16 players – two per team – will be available for selection from the wildcard draft shortly before the competition begins.

Lanning retired from international cricket in November, ending a stellar 13-year career with Australia.

Warner has retired from Test and one-day international cricket but still represents Australia in T20s.

India batter Smriti Mandhana, who represented last year’s women’s champions Southern Brave, is also in the draft alongside international team-mates Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh.

But their participation may be limited by having to prepare for the Asia Cup taking place in September, with The Hundred finals taking place on 18 August.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard and Australia batter Beth Mooney are among the other names involved in the draft.

Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, the ICC’s 2023 Women’s T20 cricketer of the year, is also on the list and looking for a first Hundred deal.

How does the draft work?

The women’s teams were allowed to retain up to eight players from last season and the men’s teams up to 10 – the rest of the slots will be filled from players in the draft.

Every squad, men’s and women’s, can select a maximum of three overseas players.

Women’s teams will go through the draft until they have 13 players, and the men’s until they have 15 – then the wildcard picks will complete the squads. They will select players in reverse order from last year’s final standings.

Every player who enters the draft has set themselves a reserve price – this is the lowest amount of money that they can be signed for, but they can receive more.

Each team gets one ‘Right to Match’ option, which allows them to re-sign one of their players from last season who they didn’t originally retain, if a rival team places a bid. The ‘Right to Match’ has to offer the same salary as the rival team, so if that price slot has already been filled, it cannot be used.

The men’s teams are allocated one centrally contracted England player, while their top price slots are two players at £125,000 and the lowest at £30,000. The highest women’s players will earn £50,000 and the lowest £8,000.
